  • A parrying dagger is a hand-held weapon commonly used in the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance periods as an off-hand weapon used to parry or defend in a sword bout. Parrying daggers often encompasses a wider guard to to better protect the hand while parrying incoming thrusts.

The sword-breaker is a sturdier dagger that has small slots on one side of the blade similar to the teeth of a comb. These teeth are used to catch the blade of an incoming opponents attack to allow for several defensive techniques as well as an attempt to break the opponents sword.
